Privacy Policy

Your Data

Your tax documents are processed in memory and sent to Anthropic's Claude API for data extraction. We do not store your documents or extracted data on any server. Everything lives in your browser session and is gone when you close the tab.

What We Don't Do

  • We never sell your data
  • We never store your SSN, tax documents, or financial information
  • We never log tax data to error reporting or analytics
  • We never share your information with third parties (except Anthropic for AI processing)

AI Processing

Your document images are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for text extraction. Anthropic's data retention policy applies to this processing. We recommend reviewing Anthropic's privacy policy for details on how they handle API inputs.

Open Source

OpenTax is open source (MIT license). You can audit every line of code. You can run it locally if you prefer your tax data never leaves your machine.

Local Storage

Your extracted data is saved in your browser's local storage so you can close the tab and come back without losing your work. This data never leaves your device and is never sent to our servers. To delete all stored data, click "Start Over" on the results page, or clear your browser's site data for this domain.
